This section of IEC 60893 encompasses the definitions pertinent to, as well as the general requirements that must be met by, industrial rigid laminated sheets designed for electrical applications. These sheets are manufactured using any of the following resins as the binder: epoxy (epoxide), melamine, phenolic, polyimide, silicone, and unsaturated polyester. The following reinforcement materials may be employed individually or in combination: cellulose paper, cotton fabric, glass fabric, glass roving, glass mat, polyester fabric, and wood veneers.
Materials that comply with this specification meet predefined performance standards. Nonetheless, the selection of a material by a user for a particular application should be determined by the actual requirements needed to ensure satisfactory performance in that specific context, rather than solely relying on the criteria outlined in this specification.
