This clause of Part 1 is replaced with the following text. This International Standard addresses the safety of electrical motor-operated vacuum cleaners, including both appliances and stationary equipment specifically designed for wet, dry, or wet and dry suction for industrial and commercial applications, with or without attachments. These devices are intended for tasks such as dust extraction from workbenches and production machines, with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for others.

NOTE 1: Examples of commercial use include applications in hotels, schools, hospitals, factories, shops, and offices for purposes other than routine housekeeping.

This standard also applies to machines that handle hazardous dust, such as asbestos, or liquids, which may be subject to additional national regulations. It is relevant for appliances that use alternative energy sources for the motor, provided their impact is taken into account. For battery-operated devices, reference should be made to IEC 60335-2-72.

NOTE 2: It is important to note that:

  • Appliances designed for use in vehicles, ships, or aircraft may require additional specifications.
  • Many countries have extra regulations established by national health authorities, labor protection agencies, water supply authorities, and similar organizations.

NOTE 3: This standard does not apply to:

  • Household appliances covered by IEC 60335-2-2;
  • Centrally located stationary vacuum cleaning systems;
  • Appliances intended for use in environments with special conditions, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (vapor or gas);
  • Audio, video, and similar electronic equipment (IEC 60065);
  • Medical appliances (IEC 60601);
  • Hand-held motor-operated electric tools (IEC 60745);
  • Personal computers and similar devices (IEC 60950);
  • Transportable motor-operated electric tools (IEC 61029).
