This portion of IEC 6097 establishes the minimum performance specifications, technical attributes, and type-testing prerequisites for narrowband telegraph equipment designed for the reception of navigational and meteorological data, as stipulated by Regulation IV/7.1.4 of the 1988 amendments to the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), and as it pertains to IEC 60945. In cases where a requirement in this standard conflicts with IEC 60945, the requirement of this standard prevails.
The standard incorporates the performance criteria from IMO Resolution MSC.148(77), the technical specifications from ITU-R Recommendation M.540, considers IMO Resolution A.694(17), and aligns with the ITU Radio Regulations where applicable.
