This section of IEC 61000-3 applies to pneumatic and electric industrial process instruments that utilize continuous measured values, as per IEC 60382 or IEC 60381-1. The additional input value, which is the set point value, can be either a mechanical parameter (such as position or force) or a standardized signal.
It is important to note that the tests outlined in this document can be applied to instruments with different continuous measured values, provided appropriate accommodations are made for these variations. Such instruments can serve as controllers or switches for alarms and similar functions.
Instruments equipped with feedback mechanisms are not included within the scope of this standard.
Electronic security concerns may affect only a limited number of products covered by this document. Therefore, this document does not address such security issues.
The purpose of this standard is to establish uniform testing methods for the performance evaluation of industrial process instruments that have analog measured values and two-state or multi-state outputs. Non-performance-related considerations are detailed in Clause 10.
