IEC 60927:2007 defines the performance requirements for starting devices (such as starters and ignitors) used with tubular fluorescent and other discharge lamps, designed for operation on a.c. supplies up to 1,000 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. These devices must produce starting pulses that do not exceed 5 kV.
This standard should be applied in conjunction with IEC 61347-1 and IEC 61347-2-1.
NOTE 1: All glow starters for fluorescent and other discharge lamps, including those with thermal relays or cut-outs, are covered by IEC 60155.
NOTE 2: Regional standards govern the regulation of EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) requirements for end-products such as luminaires and independent control gear. In a luminaire, the control gear is the primary contributor to EMC considerations. Control gear, along with other components, should comply with these regional standards.
